Download Available: Moldvay Era Classes in USR

Like chocolate and peanut butter, I think Moldvay-era classes go great with USR (as I've written several times before) for some dungeon crawl fun.

I've combined my first and second post on the topic along with some new ideas into a pocketmod for your edification (and my own enjoyment, frankly - i love pocketmods!):

For those not so enamored of the pocketmod format as I am, here it is in full size glory.

Links will be added to the Downloads page eventually.

  1. Thanks, Charlie! If you get a chance to try it out, please let me know if you think something doesn't work or works really well for that matter.

    1. You're welcome! I definitely plan on trying this out but I also plan on doing more with it. I was looking for a smoother, simpler system to use for my home campaign.

I have had USR on my hard drive for months and just recently got around to seriously looking at it. Then I found your Moldvay information for USR. The funny thing is that I was considering using Moldvay but now I want to use USR and your Moldvay information for the base and add in the classes and other campaign information. If it works as well as I think it will I wanted to offer the information in a USR supplement; of course, without stepping on anyone's toes. I will point people to your document in mine and will not reproduce your work but only changes (if any) that I make. Is that cool with you?

    2. Hi Charlie,

I took a look at your recent post on your site. Your ideas are intriguing! By all means feel free to use what you want from my document - I purposely chose to go the Creative Commons route, so as long as there's attribution and the final product isn't commercial, no need to ask.

If you have any questions about why I chose to go the route I did with specialisms or spells or what have you, and my previous posts on this topic don't answer them, fell free to let me know!

    3. Hey John,
Thanks! I like to ask just in case but thanks for letting me know. Any document I do will also be Creative Commons and not commercial so no worries there. Somehow, I missed your CC notice on my first read of your document - d'oh!

I have been progressing at a decent clip so far. I have not decided to go completely Moldvay as close as I can or just "inspired by Moldvay" but it should be interesting either way.
