If you want a PDF instead, WargameVault has it for $14. The print copy I have is fairly flimsy and fell apart almost immediately. Given that I really only need the reference tables during a game means I'd probably opt for the PDF and print only what I need.

I've played games with up to 42 figures and a vehicle per side with no problems and I've seen one review mention the basic rules can support up to 100 figures per side. For me, that's plenty.

Both Battles by.. (for very large scale battles with tons of figures) and To Be Continued (he pulp add-on) require the basic rules anyway, so you won't have wasted your money if you do like the rules enough to try those. Expeditions is the RPG and I've never seen a copy - other than the "See Inside" option on Amazon.

The Compendium, as I understand it, incorporates a reworking of the rules to make them more consistent across the different sets - which are all included. Honestly, I can't get past the $70 price tag.

Even at $30 for the PDF, I'm not convinced - sure you get new tables for damage to different vehicle types and a set of aeronef rules, but I'm not sure that's enough to make it worth it.

One important note - it's a pretty generic rules set and people use it for skirmish from ancient to wwii to futuristic sci fi. Straight history or crazy contraptions. There's even a free set of zombie rules available. Just changing the reliability of vehicles and weapon types available goes a long way. Plus you can house rule it like crazy.

-JohnJohn Yhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16465161620134394060noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1796726216651686005.post-63809784996025174252012-07-16T10:26:18.240-04:002012-07-16T10:26:18.240-04:00OK - if I wanted in on the GASLIGHT action, what r...OK - if I wanted in on the GASLIGHT action, what rule texts would I buy? I just started perusing Amazon and got a bit confused.JFhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00564104029467943674noreply@blogger.com
